Cannons, swords and a spectacular sea battle: the legendary Pirate Battle returns to Omiš on 18 August

After a six-year break, one of Omiš's most iconic summer events is finally making its long-awaited return. On Tuesday, 18 August, the town's harbour will once again become the stage for the famous Pirate Battle - a spectacular historical reenactment that brings Omiš's rich pirate heritage back to life.

Ships, pirates, historical troops, cannon fire and a breathtaking fireworks display will transform the seafront into a scene straight out of the 13th century, when the fearless Omiš pirates ruled the sea.

A long-awaited comeback

The last Pirate Battle took place in 2019, before the extensive reconstruction of the Port of Omiš began. Thanks to this major €15 million redevelopment project, the event had to pause for several years.

Now, with the newly renovated harbour complete, the Pirate Battle is finally returning to its original home. The brand-new pier and seafront promenade provide the perfect setting for one of the Adriatic's most spectacular summer events.

Step into the heart of Omiš's pirate history

The Pirate Battle is much more than a performance. It is a dramatic reenactment of a real historical conflict from the 13th century, when the pirates of Omiš outsmarted and defeated the powerful Republic of Venice.

Traditional pirate boats will once again sail across the harbour as cannons roar, swords clash and history unfolds before thousands of spectators.

Around 150 costumed participants will take part in the spectacle, led by the local KPU Omiški gusari (Omiš Pirates Association), joined by Kumpanija Vela Luka, the Dubrovački trombunjeri, the Klis Uskoks, Društvo Poljičana Sveti Jure – Priko, Bakar Town Guard 1848 and the Požega Town Guard. The event is organised by the Omiš Tourist Board.

Whether you're seeing the Pirate Battle for the first time or returning after years, one thing is certain - it's an experience you won't forget.

An evening packed with entertainment

The programme kicks off at 6:30 PM with activities for children.

At 7:15 PM, all historical groups will parade through the streets of Omiš before the main event begins at 8:15 PM, when the spectacular Pirate Battle takes over the harbour.

After the naval battle, the evening continues with a performance by Kumpanija Vela Luka, ceremonial firing by the Dubrovački trombunjeri, a fire show and a spectacular fireworks display lighting up the Omiš harbour!

The celebration continues

Once the final cannon has fired, the evening moves to the Croatian Veterans' Park. Organised by KPU Omiški gusari, the after-party features local food and drinks, demonstrations of traditional crafts and a live concert by band Vigor, bringing another unforgettable Omiš summer evening to a perfect close.

All roads lead to Omiš

The Pirate Battle is more than Omiš's biggest summer event, it's one of the town's defining traditions and a celebration of its remarkable history.

So mark 18 August in your calendar, find your spot by the sea and experience one of the Adriatic's most spectacular historical events. See you at the Pirate Battle in Omiš!
