One of the most famous natives of Omiš, the globally acclaimed footballer Ivan Perišić, has taken part in our latest promotional video "Operation 4", where the natural and cultural beauties of Omiš become the setting of a real adventure. The celebrated number 4 of the Croatian national football team rarely appears in commercials, but Perišić gladly stepped into a cinematic portrayal of his hometown, where he took his initial football steps - something we are incredibly proud of!
The Victories of Croatia’s Number Four Jersey
Ivan Perišić, a born-and-raised local of Omiš, needs no introduction as one of the greatest Croatian footballers of all time, who contributed immensely to winning the silver medal at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and bronze medal in Qatar in 2022. His achievements and performances in club football are also spectacular. Here are some of the highlights:
As a player of Club Brugge in 2011, our fellow citizen won the title of the top scorer and best player of the Belgian league. A year later, in 2012, he won the German football championship with Borussia Dortmund, as he also did in 2020 with the Bavarian giants, Bayern, when he also lifted the most prestigious trophy in club football - the UEFA Champions League. A year later, he won the Italian Serie A with Inter Milan, following which he signed for London's Tottenham Hotspur.
Similarly, this year he clinched the silver medal with the Croatian national team in the Nations League, where we narrowly missed out on the gold medal in the penalty shootout!
World Cup Silver and Memorable Homecoming
Perišić has always openly shown affection towards his hometown. The fact that he is “head to toe” from Omiš is not only evident in the new promotional video, but also in his tattoos featuring motifs of the town, serving as a lasting reminder of where he grew up.
In the summer of 2018, Perišić returned to Omiš with the most significant achievement in Croatian sports – the silver medal from Russia around his neck. On this occasion, the people of Omiš arranged an incredible welcome reception, showing the footballer their love is mutual!
Speaking of achievements, it's worth mentioning that Perišić is Croatia’s top scorer in major competitions with ten goals, followed by Davor Šuker with one goal less. He is also the only Croatian player to have scored more than one goal in three consecutive major tournaments.
Proud of Our Children
Omiš has always been proud of its children, young and older. Therefore, it is only natural to see them as the protagonists of our new promotional video, inspired by Ivan's returns to his hometown – a moment when the real excitement unfolds, and his name is on the lips of many fellow citizens as well as tourists.
They all want to know his whereabouts, who saw him last, where he had his coffee, because everyone in Omiš is mad about Ivan, not only due to his incredible successes but also for his great character and sportsmanship. Both young and old are proud of our famous footballer, so it's no wonder they all embark on a true adventure just for an autograph or to capture their moment with him in a photograph.
Omiš in All its Glory
The charms and Mediterranean allure of Omiš are introduced to an increasing number of tourists every year. By participating in our video, Ivan has once again shown commitment towards his hometown, presenting it to the world in all of its glory - from its medieval fortresses, stunning beaches, the heart of the Old Town, the Cetina Canyon, the famous soparnik savory pie representing its rich gastronomic tradition, to the Dalmatian spirit of the locals.
